Proenza Schouler Pre-Fall 2011 Collection

Grab your llama, girl!

The Proenza Schouler boys looked to South America for inspiration this time around; not so much in the shapes and certainly not in a literal way, but in the colors and the prints. We tend to think of the boys much in the same way we think of the Rodarte girls. That is to say, they have a somewhat intellectual approach to fashion design that always gives you something to discuss and ponder, but doesn't always make for very pretty clothing. Not that we think this is ugly. We hate the shorts; we'll get that right out of the way. But we love most of the dresses and the use of culture-appropriate weaving techniques like ikat to give the entire collection more weight and interest. They've dipped their toes into knitwear for the very first time and the sweaters are gorgeous. As always, it's all in how it's going to be interpreted, but they never fail to interest us and they always turn out the most impeccably executed pieces.
