We've said it before: fashion is experiential. It's an entirely different experience giving a celebrity a mental IN or OUT when you're standing ten feet away from them. Heidi glowed last night and owned the (very crowded) room. You have to understand this was a public relations event and Heidi was VERY "handled." We got exactly 1 minute to chat with her, barely long enough to ask her who she was wearing (how very Joan and Melissa) and to tell her she looks fabulous, before she was on to the next interviewer or well-wisher. She was friendly and she told us she was wearing a dress by Thomas Wylde.
We thought then and still think she looks great. It's funny, though. Looking at the pictures, those blue shoes stand out like a sore thumb and we'd normally say she should have chosen something else, but they were barely even noticeable in person. IN.
And just for the halibut, here are some press pics from the event as well as our very grainy iPhone pics. There was a short dance performance showcasing Heidi's line (mostly just trampoline-jumping). The place was VERY crowded - a much larger crowd than we assumed would be there - and we heard not a word of the episode as it aired. We had to watch it this morning just to write about it.
EDITED TO ADD: Since we're being asked in the comments section for our impressions of the designers, especially Ivy, here's a little info:
Hoo boy. At the risk of turning this into another all-Ivy comments section (which, seriously, people. Don't turn this into another all-Ivy comments section. You have the previous two posts for that), she was a LOT of fun, beautiful in person but very tiny. Despite the belief of some commenters that we are obligated to report all the details of off-the-record conversations at parties, we aren't going to get into a lot of what we talked about in terms of behind the scenes stuff.
Suffice it to say, there are no shocking revelations; merely the belief - by an unusually high percentage of the cast - that what we're seeing is not accurate as to what went down. We've written about every episode of every season of this show and we've met probably 75% of all the casts, and we've never heard so many of them say that the editing is really fucked up and inaccurate. Make of that what you will. We got into some serious side conversation with Althea and Nicolas Putvinski about the latest McQueen collection, as well as our favorites and least favorites from the recent shows.
Peach, as always, was fun. So were the models. And Ben and his husband. And Emilio and Andy. Basically, everyone was fun and laid back and enjoying the evening. At the end of the day, it's a television show, y'all.
