PR: Andy and his LBSD

Little Black Slinky Dress.

Poor Andy. In a season where it seems like every designer provokes vehement reactions from the commentariat, no one ever seems to have much bad to say about him. Let's all show Andy how much we love him by filling up the comments section with remarks about how much we hate him, kittens.

Yes, this is a very tight, short, black dress. And yes, Andy keeps returning to the black well, just like April did.

But despite the somewhat familiar quality of this look, we gotta say, it's a spectacular design.

If you're going to do a tiny little black dress for a design competition, then you need to find some way to make it seem fresh and, most importantly, designed.

Mission accomplished.

We LOVE that back.

It really makes the dress.

Actually, that's not quite true. The back, plus the unusual seaming, plus the mix of materials is what elevates this dress above mere LBD status.

Drawbacks: there's some puckering going on.

And the styling is a doubly-dated "Addicted to Love"/Matrix pastiche. He could have easily won this but we think the combination of the styling and the fact that, despite the innovation, it's still "just" a little black dress, the judges weren't as impressed as they could have been. One thing's for sure, he's earned his spot in the finals.
